Dark circles are skin depressions due to the natural presence of the lacrimal sulcus, which can be deeper depending on the individual morphology. The sub-millimeter skin thickness (it is the thinnest skin of our body!) contributes giving the bluish - purplish color often poorly tolerated. These characteristics contribute to a tired and heavy gaze, often with visible blood capillaries in the orbital margins.

However, this is not a risk-free procedure! It must be performed with particular techniques to minimize the risks, in particular the territory of the angular artery must be avoided. An intravascular injection can cause blindness due to ischemia of the optic nerve. There should be exclusive use of the cannula in the lacrimal sulcus area, stopping before the medial canthal tendon of the eye, in order to be in maximum safety. It is also important to perform small boluses of the product to avoid accumulations and lymphatic stasis.
My personal technique always makes use of the use of the cannula, to minimize the risks and trauma to the tissues. I perform a rather central access, near the apex of the cheekbone, which allows me to check both the medial and lateral areas. I never use more than 0.5cc of product per side. I repeat the procedure only after 6 months, to avoid unwanted swelling. In almost all cases there is no need to refill the medial area (lacrimal sulcus) until after 12 months. While the lateral area can be refilled after 6 months, given the greater mobility of the cheekbone in this area.
